Fibre art and PHOTOGRAPHY

In my art I love using richly coloured fabric including handmade felt. I stitch  art quilts with a unique story attached.

My inspiration comes from the natural environment, particularly outback Australia. I enjoy the colours,  shapes and textures of our ancient landscapes. In some of my art quilts I have used images of objects such as rusty, corroded metal ; tumbled, worn wooden fences  with barbed wire and orange coloured wind ripples in sand dunes.

When travelling outside Australia I am often captivated by the differences in landscapes and the structure of cities. I love reflections of a foreign environment in the glass and steel of  high rise buildings.

I am training my eye to see differently. In Australia one becomes used to the bright, often harsh, light of the sun. Elsewhere the light is often less harsh, more subtle, the greens of grass brighter than the olive tones of  Australia.

To capture an image I take endless digital photographs and later  translate them into art quilts, felt objects and wearable art. I often use the pictures printed on cotton or organza. Many of my artworks incorporate hand dyed fabrics to compliment and supplement the photographs.
